Kmart Rattan Cabinet Hack/DIY

Updated: May 4, 2022

We decided our Kmart Rattan Cabinet needed a coat of paint to better suit our home.

Firstly, my husband wiped it down, and sanded it down for a smooth surface to work with.

We used the ScotchBlue Sharp Lines Multi-Surface Painter’s Masking Tape to tape off the rattan frame, and the legs which we intended to keep the natural veneer. To avoid the paint cracking, we used Rust-Oleum’s Ultra Cover.2x Spray Paint Primer which can be used on wood.

We chose to use the Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra-Matt spray paint in Linen White which gave a beautiful matte finish. To cover both sides, the top, and all sides of the doors, we used 2 x spray paint bottles.

We prefer to use spray paint whenever we paint furniture as it helps not putting down too thick layers. If you prefer to use paint tins, Rust-Oleum also has the same shade in an 887ML tin.

We’re really happy with the result!
