What is Bhumi?
Bhumi is a bedding company who believes in creating positive environmental, and social impact through the growing, sourcing, manufacturing, and selling of their products. Bhumi literally means “Mother Earth”.
In the words of their founder Vinita,
“We are paving the way for a new era in the textile industry by offering premium products made from organically grown and ethically made cotton, creating a positive impact on the people and the planet. We encourage you to make thoughtful consumer purchases.”
Ingrained in their business is the pursuit to stamp out child labour, bad working conditions, and hazardous chemicals because well, it’s 2020, and that’s just not on.
Is Bhumi socially, and environmentally friendly?
Of course! On Bhumi’s website they state they sell luxurious bedding that’s chemical free, and work within the highest environmental standards while maintaining a respect for social justice.
This means, no genetically modified seeds (which I didn’t know was a thing), no toxic dyes used, no hazardous synthetic pesticides used, crop rotated frequently to conserve soil, effective water retention due to healthier soil which contains more carbon.
Their bedding colours are all natural hues, and dyed using “Global Organic Textiles Standard (GOTS) approved dyes which are free of hazardous elements such as nickel, lead, formaldehyde, amines, pesticides and heavy metals protecting farmers and their families as well as consumers.”
How does Bhumi sheets feel?
Honestly, heavenly. I’m used to sleeping on Tencel, and silk sheets, and these cotton sheets feel equally as smooth.
I’ll be using these sheets for one of our spare bedrooms, and I’m sure our guests will love the silky smooth Bhumi sheets!
What about their bath mats, and towels?
Yes, that’s right. They made great sheets so they ventured off to make unbelievably soft bathroom mats, and face towels too.
The bath mats come in two sizes which is perfect for along the bathtub, and by the sink.
We also got their body towels, and face towels. The body towels a bit on the small side as I use Sheridan towels but I'll still use them to wipe my both just not wrap around.
The Bhumi towels are made of 700gsm of 100% Fairtrade organic cotton which is absorbent for a quick dry while still being super soft on your skin.
